Does this tool upload my text?
No. Word Counter runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your text is never sent to any server, logged, or stored. You can use it offline once the page is loaded, and no account or internet connection is needed for the counting to work.
What counts as a word?
Words are counted by splitting the trimmed text on consecutive whitespace characters — spaces, tabs, and newlines. A string like "hello world" counts as two words. Hyphenated compound words (e.g. "state-of-the-art") count as one word because there is no whitespace inside them.
