What this tool does
Measure word count, character count, and line count in the browser.
Word Counter is a fast browser-based helper for checking text length before publishing, sending, or editing.
Tool code processes the text in your browser and does not submit it to a TOOLGRID processing endpoint.
Where this tool earns its place
Paste article drafts, school assignments, grant answers, or profile copy to confirm the text fits a fixed word count before submitting it.
Use character and no-space counts when drafting titles, meta descriptions, ads, SMS messages, or interface labels with tight length budgets.
Count lines, paragraphs, and sentences when turning pasted notes into a cleaner brief, manuscript, changelog, or support response.
What to check before relying on the result
- Performance and maximum practical input size depend on browser memory, device speed, and the structure of the input.
- Review the generated result before replacing or publishing an original file.
Open a nearby browser tool when you need to validate, convert, or reuse the result.

Tips & Tricks
- 01Paste plain text for cleaner counts
Rich text copied from editors can include invisible formatting. Paste as plain text when you need counts that match what will be published.
- 02Use no-space characters for compact surfaces
The character count with spaces is useful for prose. The no-space count is better for UI labels, SMS-style limits, and compact identifiers.
FAQ
02Does the word counter include punctuation in the character count?
Yes β the character count includes all characters including spaces and punctuation. The 'characters (no spaces)' count strips whitespace only.
Is there a word or character limit?
No hard limit. The tool handles long documents β blog posts, essays, and manuscripts β in your browser; tool code does not submit entered text to a TOOLGRID processing endpoint.
How are words counted?
Words are split on whitespace. 'hello-world' counts as one word; 'hello world' counts as two. This matches how most editors (Google Docs, Microsoft Word) count words.
Does it work with non-English text?
Yes. The tool counts any Unicode text correctly, including Chinese, Arabic, and other non-Latin scripts. Note that Chinese text counting may differ from what you expect since words aren't separated by spaces.
